ABOUT THE LIBRARYCentral Library Garage Repair Work BeginsThe Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library Board of Trustees have announced that contractors have begun the process of making necessary repairs to the parking garage as part of the Central Library Transformation Project. Construction activity had been suspended for approximately three months while the Library, along with independent concrete and structural engineering experts, worked to determine the scope of problems relating to the placement of concrete in the two-level underground parking facility and to identify steps to correct the situation. For the next seven to ten days, selective hydro-demolition of flawed concrete will be performed by Rampart Hydro Services of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. The process will involve the use of ultra-high pressure water spray (36,000 pounds per square inch) to remove concrete from the aggregate. Once complete, experts will be able to better determine the extent of damage to the parking structure and to decide upon further necessary remediation. The impact of repairs on the project's schedule and budget will not be known until such investigation takes place. Structural Preservation Systems of Gilberts, Illinois has been contracted to perform actual repair work. The prime contractor for the parking garage project is Shook, LLC, of Indianapolis. |
