Library users in Marion County can access a wide assortment of full-text online databases as a result of a $550,700 grant to the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library Foundation from the Library Fund of The Indianapolis Foundation, a Central Indiana Community Foundation affiliate.

The grant allows the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library to subscribe to 15 commercial databases comprising the Marion County Internet Library (MCIL) in the areas of business, health, literature, history and science. Databases also include a sizeable collection of e-books (available only for reading on a PC), elementary and high school research guides, archives from The Indianapolis Star, and community resource information through the Central Indiana Human Services Database.

Users will find such MCIL databases as Birds of Indiana; Business and Company Resource Center; Central Indiana Human Services Database, CQ Researcher; History Resource Center: U. S.; History Resource Center: World; Indianapolis Star Archives; Literature Resource Center; netLibrary; Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center; Science Resource Center; SIRS Discoverer; SIRS Researcher; Student Resource Center; and Wildflowers of Indiana.

Residents with an IMCPL library card and Internet capabilities can access the databases from home or work at www.ilibrary.org.

In addition to the Marion County Internet Library databases, visitors to IMCPL's website can find over 40 other educational databases that provide timely, accurate and reliable information to researchers. Their contents include full-text articles from magazines and newspapers, as well as information from standard library reference sources and databases.

Funds for these other paid subscriptions come from the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library and the INSPIRE network, funded by the State of Indiana through the Indiana Cooperative Library Services Authority.
