Statement by IMCPL Board of Trustees President Louis Mahern

Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library Board of Trustees President Louis Mahern today announced the departure of Linda Mielke as Chief Executive Officer, effective January 15, 2007.
Mahern said that the separation was mutually agreed upon by Mielke and the Library Board. Mielke will be paid nearly $70,000 in severance pay as called for in her contract.
Mahern praised Mielke for the "many tough decisions that she had to make over the past two years. We would never have made it through our financial crisis without her resoluteness and attention to detail." He also credited Mielke with centralizing collection development, greatly increasing the amount of funding for books and materials for patron use, and for opening additional libraries on Sunday.
Mahern said that he understood Mielke's desire to move on and wished her well in her future endeavors.
