Indy Reads "Alphabet Affair" to Celebrate the Letter "H"

Indy Reads volunteer Bridget Bobel (left) of Indianapolis has provided literacy tutoring to Carmel Roseberry for the past two years. Bobel, who lists Indy Reads as her main advocacy activity, will represent Indiana in the Miss USA pageant April 21 in Baltimore, MD. She'll greet those attending the 8th Annual "Alphabet Affair" benefiting Indy Reads on April 29 at the Hyatt Regency downtown.
An evening of entertainment and celebration is in store during the 8th annual Alphabet Affair benefiting the Indy Reads adult literacy service of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library on Saturday, April 29 beginning at 6:15 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency, One South Capitol Avenue.
The event will honor all things "H". Although it is black-tie optional, guests are encouraged to come in their most creative "H"-related costumes and compete for prizes in several categories. The evening will include such "H"-themed activities as a head-spinning live auction, a hearty meal, hip dancing and a hula hoop contest.
The Alphabet Affair raises funds for Indy Reads, which provides one-on-one and group literacy services to Marion County adults who function at the lowest levels of literacy or who are learning English as a second language. Indy Reads is accredited by ProLiteracy America, a national organization dedicated to the cause of literacy.
"Most people don’t realize that approximately 100,000 adults in Marion County read at the lowest level of literacy," says Nikki Shoultz, co-chair of this year’s fundraiser. "The Alphabet Affair is a fun way for people to get involved. This important event raises programming funds for Indy Reads as well as community awareness about adult literacy."
Guests also will have the opportunity to meet Bridget Bobel, Miss Indiana - USA and volunteer tutor for the Indy Reads program.
Registration deadline is April 21, 2006. Admission to the event is $85 per person. For tickets, visit the IndyReads web site or call 317-275-4040.
