Bringing Paper to Life: An Exhibit by Residents of Local Senior Centers at Central Library
Throughout July, an exhibit of life-size, three-dimensional African animals constructed from paper-mache will be on display at Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair Street.
The works were created by residents of four central Indiana senior healthcare centers as part of a community art project coordinated by Renata Hickey, Activity Director at NorthWest Manor Health Care Center.
"Bringing Paper to Life" will feature eight hand-crafted animals of Kenya, including a replica of a six-foot-tall baby giraffe. Other animals in the exhibit include a second giraffe, two baby zebras, a baby elephant, a cheetah, two Patas monkeys, and an Acacia tree from which one of the monkeys is swinging.
In addition to those from NorthWest Manor Healthcare, residents from Sunrise Assisted Living at Fallcreek, Millers Merry Manor, and Meadow Lake Healthcare on Mooresville contributed to this community art project.
"These groups of crafters really get attached to their animal creations and feel a great sense of accomplishment when finished," Hickey said. "The residents also get to be part of a project that will be shared in their community."
The exhibit can be found on the fourth floor of Central Library.
